Welcome to the ReadingKEY Trial Page
From this page you can try our free, easy-to-use reading improvement materials.
You'll observe dramatically improved reading progress over other reading programs
in just 15 minutes after using the Student Vocab Builder (Student Reading Wall) Program below.  Retest your student the following morning and see how
our unique memorization techniques have solidified the words
into your student's permanent long-term memory!

While our kindergarten section concentrates on mastering alphabet letter names
and consonant sounds, Grades 1 through 6 concentrate on specially researched
Grade Level reading vocabulary.

HOW DO I USE YOUR MATERIALS?
First, you need to pick a place to begin.  If you were a member with full access, you would begin  at least 1 year below your student's actual reading level (we need to insure these earlier words are mastered and can be read quickly and easily).  In this Trial Section, however, you want to begin with words your child (student) does not know, since you want to determine if ReadingKEY really can result in dramatic reading improvement for your child or student.

TEST YOUR CHILD
Below is a selection of words from each of our grade level lists in our free trial section.  Have your student sit down next to you and read the words starting with Grade 1.  Keep advancing until your student is unable to read 5 of the ten words in a grade column.  When testing words in Grade 4, 5 and 6, your student must also give the definition or put the word into a sentence to be counted as correct.  Upon finding the Grade with 5 errors - click the link below that column.  This will jump you to the appropriate "Student Reading Wall" file to download.  After downloading the file, simply print out the pages from your computer and tape them along a wall side-by-side about 3 feet off the floor.  Just follow the 4 simple memorization steps listed at the top of each page and watch the progress begin!

Test your student below
If 5 or more words are read/defined incorrectly - click link below the column -
to go to the appropriate Grade Level Student Reading Wall List -
then click the free WEEK 1-9 Option - Print the pages and tape them to your wall.

BEHAVIOR STRATEGY CARDS
The Most Important Rule in Life -
If I Work Hard and Be Nice to Others.............

The majority of behavior problems can be dramatically reduced if we concentrate behavioral intervention strategies among children younger than 7 years old (the ages in which permanent personality traits are developing).  Laying a foundation for all of this, it is essential to give children some "common-sense" logic on how to achieve a better life.  To accomplish this, we've made a simple "colorful" phrase which can be printed on an 8x11 piece of paper.  It is called the "Most Important Rule in Life" - which is - "If I work hard and be nice to others then good things will come my way. This phrase is printed in colorful letters on a single page and should be posted throughout your classrooms and halls of all Kindergarten and Grade 1 students.  Whenever you ask  - What is the most important rule in life? - the child should be able to recite the above answer immediately. If this phrase is memorized by your students, we will have given them important "Meaning" as to why they should demonstrate positive behaviors in school and in society. (1 Page).

BEHAVIOR STRATEGY CARDS
The 3 Steps if Someone is Bothering You -

Many students respond to conflicts from minor "name calling" to "bumps in the lunch line" by becoming angry immediately.  The words printed on this 3 page file are a proven technique for dramatically reducing student conflicts in elementary school and is one that desperately needs to be started in Kindergarten or earlier.  Major student conflicts will be diffused immediately when children put these 3 steps into real practice.  Have your students memorize the 3 steps in this phrase and they will have the skills and confidence to deal with all types of conflicts.    When you see a major conflict about to erupt - look at the child - hold up 3 fingers and say - "3 STEPS" - Nine times out of ten - the child will follow the 3 steps and immediately diffuse the situation.  So what are these magical steps with the power to move mountains?  Download the file and find out (3 Pages).
Alphabet Memorizing Cartoon Characters
The very first step in learning-to-read....
GET THOSE ALPHABET LETTER NAMES MEMORIZED !!
Each letter of the alphabet is on a full size  8x11 paper and associated with a unique and creative cartoon character to enhance memorization.
To further enhance efficiency of memorization - we now have the letters listed separately in lowercase and uppercase.  26 pages each file.
The next 3 files also help with alphabet letter memorization.

Alphabet Letter Writing Practice Sheets - Lowercase Letters
Perfect as a follow-up to the above classroom activity.  Kindergarten students can do this on their own after a 1 minute explanation by the teacher. Each sheet teaches how to write the lowercase letter while also  further solidifying the memorization of the letter name.  Has a black and white "Phonics Character" line drawing which students color to help with letter sound memorization. Each worksheet is about a 15-20 minute activity.

SLAPPER - Recognition Memory Game
SLAPPER is a highly motivational game that helps students reach permanent memorization of almost any information.  Use SLAPPER in a "one-on-one" situation to introduce new letters or sounds.  It is also very effective for students who have trouble memorizing certain consonant or vowel sounds.  While SLAPPER is excellent for memorization of phonics related material, it is also excellent for memorizing any information, including – letter names – confusing words (where were who how want what etc) – and even math facts.  Although it is listed here in the Kindergarten section - it is perfect for students of any age.
NOTE:  This game is also a fantastic "ice-breaker" for new students you are seeing for the first time.

Consonant Sound Memorization - The "Where is" Worksheets
Before children can learn to read at maximum pace, they absolutely must have all consonant sounds memorized (b-c-d-f-g-etc.). We call these our "Where Is..." worksheets because the child must locate where the consonant sound is heard - at the beginning or end of a word.  These worksheets are not written in Word or PDF format, but are written in HTML format.  Click the link at left to go straight to the consonant index.  Choose the letter worksheet you'd like and watch your student(s) memorize consonant sounds faster than a jack rabbit can run to the carrot farm.

Once your student(s) have at least been exposed to the consonant sounds in File 13 and vowel sounds - they are ready for this powerful activity.  These 5 specially sequenced worksheets move from easy to challenging to get the job done for solidifying consonant and vowel sound memorization - along with mastering the 20 CVC words used in our 20 CVC Wall Cards in File 7 (cat - dog - pig - fox - lid -etc.).  Each of the five skill levels challenge the child on a different sound in the word (beginning - middle - end).  By the way - these 5 sheets will also impress you immensely regarding how effective they are for getting a child to understand basic concepts in phonemic awareness.  Give a non-reader Skill-1 (who has some familiarity with consonant sounds) and you'll see the lights go on after 1 minute of attempting this activity.

NEW GRADE 1 READING VOCABULARY LIST
This newly organized Grade 1 list replaces our previous Grade 1 list used prior to March 17, 2004.  It still contains 340 vocabulary words but lists have been organized with increased common vowel sound and reading rule categories. This list outlines the 340 words which must be memorized by the end of Grade 1.  Organized from the "most common" words at the beginning of the list to the "lesser common" toward the end and further divided into similar vowel sound categories.  Excellent for one-on-one testing to determine missing "essential Grade 1 Vocabulary." Teachers can use this for additional assignments - student conferences - and parent reading support.  Our research has shown when a student knows the 340 list words they will be reading at approximately a 2.0 grade level and score in the top 10% on standardized tests such as the Stanford and Wood-Cock Johnson.  If you wish to access the lists we were using before March 2004 - Click Here

Consonant Memorizing Worksheets - Where is the sound of.....
Although these worksheets are available in our above Kindergarten section, these sounds need to be intensely reviewed for the first 4-8 weeks of 1st Grade. Choose the letter worksheet you'd like and watch your student(s) memorize the consonant sounds faster than ever before!

Difficult Digraphs - ch - sh - th - wh
Because these sounds are frequently used in words, it is extremely important to have them memorized early in the learning-to-read process immediately following mastery of the consonant sounds.  We use 4 fun characters along with an effective worksheet design to get these essential sounds memorized.  Click the link at left for a little fun with Chocolate Chicken - Sharing Sherry - Thunder Thumb and White Whale.

CLASSROOM VOCABULARY BUILDER PROGRAM
The Grade 1 Classroom Vocabulary Builder (also called the Classroom Reading Wall) is an immensely effective program for insuring your classroom students achieve necessary vocabulary progress throughout the year.   Since "word recognition" (being able to read words accurately and easily) is imperative for maximum reading comprehension, our Classroom Program is the perfect vocabulary mastery supplement to your current reading program.   If you have a class of  7 - 30 students, this is a highly efficient and motivational way to teach the Grade 1 Reading Vocabulary words to your students.  Place a new list in front of the class when introducing the daily words and follow the directions outlined at the top of each list.  Vowel sounds have been color coded and letters are big enough to be seen over 30 feet across the room.  Its inherent design automatically teaches phonemic awareness - proper decoding skills - and essential reading vocabulary.  The words are presented in the same order as in our Grade 1 Reading Vocabulary List - Student Reading Wall Lists and Vocabulary Building Worksheets.

 STUDENT VOCAB BUILDER PROGRAM
(Also called the Student Reading Wall)

This is what you want to use to dramatically improve a child's reading ability in a short period of time.  Just print out the trial Week 1-9 list at left and follow the simple directions at top.  That's all you have to do to observe dramatically improved progress in just 15-20 minutes! R
esearch from the "No Child Left Behind Act" has concluded time and time again that being able to read words quickly and easily (also called fluency or word recognition) is the key for enabling students to become successful readers.  While many schools have yet to implement these findings, the ReadingKEY Program addresses this research specifically.  Our Grade 1 Student Vocabulary Builder Program (also known as the Student Reading Wall) will provide dramatic results for students reading below grade level or those who have trouble mastering the vocabulary in our Classroom Vocabulary Builder Program.  Classroom teachers can line these pages along the back of the class or hallway for extra practice.  Parents or Tutors should line as many pages as you have room for along a living room wall or hallway to organize and motivate the child's instruction.   Make sure you completely learn the strategy called "Stop at the Vowel Sound."  It is described in detail and is a very powerful technique.  Click the Reading Wall Video link at left to view the Student Vocabulary Builder techniques.  You must have RealPlayer installed on your computer to view the video. If you click the link and the video doesn't start, go to www.real.com to download their latest RealPlayer.  Look for their "free" version (usually linked from the bottom of the page).  If you are accessing this index from our Total Reading Package CD you can easily install the PC version of RealPlayer by going to the "Viewers" folder (seen after opening the CD) and then open the RealPlay folder.

VOCABULARY BUILDING WORKSHEETS
Our Grade 1 Vocabulary Building Worksheets parallel the same words used in our 1st Grade Vocabulary List and Reading Wall.  These are a great "follow-up" once you have reviewed and practiced the "Days" vocabulary words.  To increase memorization rate, each worksheet uses 3 special strategies including - Recognition Memory - Scrambled Letters and Sentence Writing.  Give your student(s) any worksheet and they will be engaged in 20 minutes of concentrated learning.  Excellent for classroom activity !

PHONICS WORKSHEETS
These popular worksheets are extremely effective for helping children memorize all essential vowel sounds while also mastering over 100 important common 1st Grade nouns.  The unique worksheet design practically eliminates student frustration while also enabling students to quickly master important Phonemic Awareness skills.

SHORT VOWEL MEMORIZING CARTOON
While memorization of short vowel sounds are very important for enabling students to successfully "decode" new words - it is absolutely essential that short vowel sounds become memorized before beginning sentence writing activities.  This is because for a student to achieve any confidence in attempting to spell "unknown" words - he/she absolutely must know what letters to associate with the sounds heard in a word.  This means that not only do the consonant sounds need to be memorized, but the more difficult short vowel sounds as well.  Lack of this skill is the NUMBER 1 reason for spelling problems.  To overcome this problem, we've made a very effective short vowel memorization song and cartoon.  For members with a CD - access from the CD for higher quality sound.  By playing this video daily for one month - first grade teachers will be able to lock those vowel sounds in their students' memory!

WORD OF THE DAY - Readme File
The "Words of the Day" are a special group of Grade 1 words which we have found to take far longer for a student to master.  These words are difficult because they either contain irregular spelling (i.e. doesn't - been - want) or are visually similar to other words (i.e. were - where).  The document explains all about our special Word of the Day strategies and how to use them in a classroom or home.  Also includes details on making a Word of the Day stand for holding the letters.

GRADE 1 STORY BOOKS
A wonderfully effective way to finalize memorization of the Grade 1 Vocabulary List Words.  We are currently developing one book per vocabulary list "Level" beginning with Level 12 words and will continue through Level 36.  Each book is designed using vocabulary only from the current list words and from previous level lists.  This insures the child has at least been exposed to all words, thereby minimizing frustration and enhancing learning. Each book can be viewed directly on your computer screen or print the pages and staple for your own personal book.  Our online computer book reading is also an excellent tool for reading in groups of up to 3-4 students.  The teacher can use the mouse to point out words and sounds and children can take turns reading since letters and pictures are large enough to be seen from 3-4 feet away.  To view the latest books we have available click the ONLINE or PRINT version links under File 30.

This is what you want to use to dramatically improve a child's reading ability in a very short period of time.  Just print out the trial Week 1-9 list at left and follow the simple directions at top.  That's all you have to do to observe dramatically improved progress in just 15-20 minutes!  These sheets are designed to be used in a "one-on-one" situation with any student and are a literal breakthrough for enabling your student to achieve unprecedented learning rates.  Our best strategies are incorporated into this procedure which include the "Stop at the Vowel Sound" technique - color coded vowel sounds and arrangement of words into similar vowel sound categories. If you are a teacher, use these sheets with students below level to bring them up at to grade level.  Also, these lists with students demonstrating difficulty mastering the daily words in the Classroom Vocabulary Builder Program.  Use scotch or masking tape to line these lists along the back of the class or hallway for organized practice.  If you are a parent or tutor, simply tape these sheets along a living room wall to organize and motivate your child's instruction.  The easy to follow directions are at the top of each list.

READING WALL TIME CARDS
Used typically by teachers to monitor a large number of students and how they progress through each list.  Place one of these "Time" score cards above each column "LEVEL" of the "Student Teaching Wall."  It is used to record the number of seconds it takes a student to say the column words and will result in astounding motivation for your students.

VOCABULARY BUILDING WORKSHEETS
Our Vocabulary Building Worksheets parallel the same words used in our 3rd Grade Vocabulary List and Reading Wall.  These are a great "follow-up" after the Classroom Vocabulary Builder Activity.  To increase word memorization, each worksheet uses 3 strategies including - Recognition Memory - Scrambled Letters and Sentence Writing.  Give your student(s) any worksheet and they will be engaged in 20 minutes of concentrated learning.  Also a great homework assignment.

GRADE 4 READING VOCABULARY - PHONICS ORGANIZATION
Our new Grade 4 Vocabulary list is now completed !  To keep the organization of Grade 4 words in line with our other Grade Level Lists, we have organized the Grade 4 words along similar phonics and reading rule  categories.  To further increase effectiveness, this new list also has an additional 100 words deemed necessary for Grade 4 reading.   Although many teachers like the "category organization" of the previous list, this phonics organized list has been shown to be far more effective for enabling students to master more words in less time.  If you would still like to use our old Grade 4 format - CLICK HERE

 CLASSROOM VOCABULARY BUILDER PROGRAM
If you have a class of 7 - 30 students, this is a highly efficient way to teach the 4th Grade Reading Vocabulary words.   Place the new list in front of the class when introducing the week's new words and follow the directions outlined at the top of each list.  Vowel sounds have been color coded and letters are big enough to be seen over 30 feet across the room.  Its inherent design teaches phonemic awareness - proper decoding skills - and essential reading vocabulary.  These columns parallel the words in the same order as they appear in our Grade 4 Vocabulary List and Vocabulary Building Worksheets.
